The webmaster has been remiss in his duties in recent times, and has been told so in no uncertain terms so it’s pull up my socks time or I’ll be replaced, and so as not to lose this prestigious position, I’m back and updating. :o)......
Ok, where do I begin?
What’s coming up?
Well the next event, is the Karaoke night in Wallis’ on Main Street on Friday Night July 25th. So if you’re a budding Frank Sinatra or Amy Winehouse, or if you want to go public with your shower-singing, why not come a long and have a go, it’ll be a great night, and at only €5 a ticket it’s a bargain.
We’re on a rest from Choral events (we’re still not a choir!!!) at the moment, but we’ll be starting back with practices again soon, for a gig in Lee Valley
Well, that’s the update now, I’ll try to keep the site updated on a more regular basis, thanks for dropping by!
A whistle-stop guide to recent events since the last update around March 22nd......
We did the Rugby pre-match lunch on March 29th, which was very well received. and we had a few quiet weeks after that.
We sang at the opening of the Special Needs leisure area in Castlemartyr, which was followed by a session in Cliffords (one of our locals)
We did a bed Push for Nell, a very brave little girl who is currently undergoing an extended course of Chemotherapy and we raised about €7000. So a big thank-you to everyone from the East Cork area and beyond who contributed generously, and to all our drivers, refreshment providers collectors and The Red Cross for the ambulance escort on the day. Thanks especially to Con who organised the event.
Later that night we helped Tony celebrate his 40th birthday, but we were tired (most of us) and faded early.
We had the presentation of the above mentioned amount to Nell, and that turned into a session afterwards, you should be able to see a trend by now everything is followed by a session. (well two actually on this particular occasion), first we have a good old singsong in the Teach Beag on Connolly Street and after that finished, a small but dedicated crew headed east to a secret location where the music continued for another couple of hours
Most recently, we had a tremendous session in Cliffords in Castlemartyr, we had a big turnout, and there was mighty music and singing. We had some old friends join us for the session, and also some new ones and hopefully they’ll continue to come along and enjoy the music and craic..
I have no doubt that there were several other session that I just can’t remember (The gargle dims the brain!!!) ....
So that’s the update...............
I’ll publish another update soon........
************
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and return to singing to Tony after his operation.
Guileen, March 22nd 2008.
We had a smallish Kiltha Tones turnout in Guileen on March 22nd, but it didn’t stop us having a mighty session once again in our ‘home away from home’. It started off nice and quietly, and we had some lovely quiet songs that are usually kept for when it’s time to go home (or after it). We were joined by Gerry O’Brien, a cousin of one of the Tones, who sang and played along with us, and we were also joined ‘late in the evening’ by Ber Twomey & Co, and she joined in the proceedings also and as usual sang some lovely songs. There was even some waltzing going on at one stage of the night!! We had a number of guest singers also, I’ll tell you, for a small idyllic location, Guileen is awash with talented singers. Close to the end of the proceedings, Derek the proprietor joined us and sang a couple of ballads and then all of a sudden it was time to go home, and we were all at a loss as usual as to how quickly the night has passed. Thanks to Derek Pearl and Betty for the hospitality, and hopefully we’ll be back in Guileen in the not-too-distant future
Next stop the Rugby pre-match lunch in Midleton on March 29th.
Cobh, February 29th 2008.
The Tones had their first ‘official’ outing of the new year in the splendid setting that is the Commodore Hotel in Cobh on Great Island in Cork Harbour on Friday Night February 29th last. The concert organised by the Cobh Male Voice Choir were fundraising to purchase an ambulance for Cobh, and the Kiltha Tones are delighted to be associated with this very worthy cause. We sang two numbers, You’ll Never Walk Alone, & Bless This House, and as usual we decided to have a drink to celebrate.
Of course one thing led to another, and when the dust settled (several hours later), another mighty session had taken place, and it was closing time, and time for us to head for home (by taxi ‘cos we missed the bus).
Another successful mission you might say!!
P.S. Don’t forget, Guileen Arms, March 22nd (Easter Saturday Night) Put it in your diary now!
Looking to the Future.
25-Feb-08
The Kiltha Tones held their Annual General Meeting on Friday Night February 22nd. At the meeting, the officers on the committee who have been in place for four years have decided to stand down. The New Committee is as follows:
Con Walsh remains as PRO/Fund Raiser, and another new face on the committee is Fintan WIlliams.
We wish the new committee all the very best.
Next Performance is in Cobh on February 29th, and a gig in Guileen is planned for March 22nd.
February Already!!
05-Feb-08
Wow, that was a quick month!!!! and a busy one too. We had a mighty night in Guileen on Jan 19th, The Cobh musicians played away for the night (we played away too, but we consider Guileen to be one of our many home venues), and despite some background noise, the music and singing was powerful. Sincere thanks to them for making the trip around the harbour, and no doubt we’ll meet up with them again in the near future. We also made a presentation to the Midleton Day Centre with the proceeds form our Wren Day ‘activities’. Thanks to our PRO Con, and Ms Áilín Quinlan.
Our Annual Trip is almost upon us, we’re off to Edinburgh for the weekend, and hopefully when we get back on Monday next we’ll all still be talking to one another!!!!
Happy new Year to you all, and thanks for visiting the website again
Well we had a busy Christmas, on Christmas Eve, a group visited Midleton Hospital, and entertained patients in the wards singing some seasonal carols and some lively ballads. Thanks to all who turned out on the day (and the night!!)
On St. Stephen’s day we braved the elements and set of on our annual Wren Day charity fund-raising activities. Thanks to Donal and Mary for their hospitality (and Hot Whiskeys), they gave us the heat to brave the weather and hit the pubs. Thanks also to the publicans and the people of Midleton and Ballinacurra for supporting our fund raising for the Midleton Day Care Centre, a very worthy cause indeed.
Again another night out took place on December 28th in Cobh, and mighty music and craic was enjoyed by all who attended.
We’re back in training again, (singing practice), and the following is a rough plan of upcoming events in teh coming weeks and months:
- Gig in Guileen Sat Jan 19th (all welcome)
- Trip to Edinburgh Feb 7th to 11th (members only!!!)
- Singing Competition in O’Meara’s Ballinacurra (dates tbd)
- Gig in Guileen March 22nd (all welcome)
Check back again soon for more updates, and hopefully I’ll get a couple of wren day 2007 pics uploaded soon.

Kiltha Tones at Capella for Hope Foundation
The Tones gave a recital of Seasonal Carols and other songs during a Champagne and Mulled Wine Reception at The Capella Resort in Castlemartyr on Saturday December 15th. Guests were attending a benefit dinner supporting The Hope Foundation.
The Tones were delighted to provide entertainment in such fantastic surroundings and for such a good cause.
Of course it was a bit early for going home, so after a couple of ’tipples’ in the sophisticated surroundings of the Knight’s Bar in Capella to wet our collective whistles, and a quick moonlight scoot up the avenue on the ‘Capella Tandem’ we headed for Clifford’s Bar in Castlemartyr where a might seisiún was already well under way. Of course we joined in with gusto, and stayed until closing time!!!!
Sincere thanks to Cormac Ó Conaill, & Anne and Ned Clifford for the food and drink on the night.
On the ‘Wren’ again
Our next “scheduled” outing will be to ‘Hunt the Wren’on St. Stephen’s Day. We’re planning to do the pubs in Midleton, Ballinacurra and maybe Rostelland and Whitegate too.
As always we’ll be collecting for a local charity, and this year our chosen charity is the Midleton Day-Care centre, a very worthy cause, so if you happen to see or hear a motley bunch of wren boys with guitars and collection buckets, be sure to give them your support.
09-Dec-07
The first thing you might notice is that the site appears to have undergone a minor facelift. We try to be different, and upon finding another website of a musical organisation located not too far form East Cork with a very similar site, (a bit serious though) so we couldn’t be having that could we??
Well the annual Christmas dinner went ahead in Water Rock last night, and good craic was had by all, the awards ceremony was sensational as usual with a number of member being selected for special mention. They know who they are.... and well done to all who contributed to making it a success.
Some pics of the night will be uploaded in the next while, so check back soon....
We’re getting rid of the bebo page. It wasn’t getting any hits, so we’re moving on.
We’ll keep the Youtube page going as that’s getting some hits and comments on our videos.
29-November-2007
Just to let everyone know, We’ll be having the craic in Guileen on Saturday December 1st 2007. Why not come along and join in?? We’re hoping for a better attendance from the Tones this time around, and who knows, maybe we’ll have a few more ‘surprise’ guests. Watch out Guileen!!!
The countdown is on to the Christmas night out, only 9 days to go...........
The gig in Guileen was a great success. Through illness and a variety of other reasons, member numbers were unavoidably depleted, but we soldiered on regardless, and with guests Mike Cronin on fiddle and Ber Twomey on guitar and vocals we ‘wowed the crowd’!!!!
The January foreign trip is still in limbo, perhaps a return trip to Listowel would be the best thing at this stage!!!
More anon.

From a recent foray outside East Cork
More pics from Lee Valley can be seen here
10-November-2007
Well the site hasn’t been updated for a while, but I have been updating our Bebo Page, and we have some new videos from Mogeely on Youtube.
We did a major Gig in Mogeely at the end of August, and we performed at the official opening of the “All New” Pro Shop at the Lee Valley Country and Golf Club. We had a super session afterwards. Got home at all-hours, and have been invited back!!!! Pics will follow in due course.
We performed at Mr. David Stanton’s Victory Social, and while not all members would be ‘Died in the Wood’ FG supporters, we had an almost full turnout, showing that the Group is magnanimous, and bigger than any one individual (jayzus that’s all a bit deep) Thanks to Mr. Stanton for his invitation to perform.
Anyways, we had a mighty session afterwards in Water Rock, and thanks also to Tom Cleere for his generosity, and thanks also to his staff (a bit grumpy on the night). We’re looking forward to returning there for our Christmas night-out in early December.
So what else, well tonight, (November 10th) we’re having a session in Guileen. Happy Birthday to John Wall who’s having an alternative gig on the same night in Ballinróistig, and I hope we don’t rob any of his guests, though I did hear that a few are coming to Guileen before going along to his bash
We’re hoping to perform at a high profile Location over the Christmas Period. It’s not quite confirmed just yet, so can’t reveal teh location or the purpose, more anon.
We’re in the final stages of organising our Annual international getaway!!!! we’re almost decided on the location, and suffice it to say that it will be of a very much cultural nature.
The Wrenboys will be back this year, collecting again for a worthy local cause, so watch out on St. Stephen’s day, and give generously to a worthy local cause.

September 1st 2007.
The concert in Mogeely last night was an outstanding success. The fantastic venue that is Mogeely Parish Church was almost full to capacity, and Cara O’Sullivan the main attraction was in top form. She sang no less than 16 songs on the night, and has such a full and powerful voice that really you would need to have been there to experience it. It’s simply outstanding. For our own part, we snag three numbers, Bless this House, and Just for today, both of which have a spiritual theme, and our final number We’ll gather Lilacs from the pen of Ivor Novello, a love song from
August 30th.
As you may have noticed from the badge in the top corner of every page, , we’re on Bebo now, it’ll take a while to get everything as we’d like it, but we’ll get there. Just click in teh badge to be transported directly to our profile page. If you’re abebo member you can leave a comment become our friend!!!!
Hope Foundation Concert in Mogeely Church - August 31st 2007
The Kiltha Tones will return to the location of their very first performance to sing once again in support of the Hope Foundation’s fantastic work with the street children in Calcutta. The concert is currently planned for Friday August 31st, and more details regarding ticket sales etc. will be available in due course. The headline performer on the night will be Internationally Acclaimed singer Cara O’Sullivan.
After the success of our trip to Moosburg earlier this year, the 2008 “International Event” is now in the planning stages. Once again we’re planning a European Destination... More anon.
More details available on the blog
A forward batallion made an unplanned ‘visit’ to the Thatch in Lisgoold on Friday May 4th, and got a good reception there, we could be going back!!!! We went back....... And the feckin’ place was empty. And I mean EMPTY!!! :-)
Next ‘Planned’ seisiún is in the Guileen Arms on July 14th. We had one there recently (April 7th) and it was mighty, so we’re looking forward to going back there again.
There’s a rumour doing the rounds that we might be singing at a concert in Killeagh on May 17th. Anything is possible, so watch this space.
A certain person who shall remain nameless (ok, it’s Con Twomey) celebrated his 60th birthday recently, and we had a mighty night out and sang a few songs in East Cork Golf Club. As the saying goes, another great night had by the Kiltha Tones.......and the wine was lovely!!!
It’s also only right and fitting that our trip to Moosburg was absolutely fantastic, and we have to thank Herr Klaus Manlig and the Holledauer Jagerchor for the time and effort they put into making the trip an outstanding success (and Ray for his assistance as intermediary). From singing in the bierhof in Munich to the few pints in ‘the pub’ to the sell-out International Friendship Concert, it was non-stop activity, and fortunately the only casualty after the weekend was severe sleep deprivation. You can see the (uncensored) photos from the trip here, just click on any of the photo thumbnails to see a larger image.

Update From the Wedding
Well... it was a mighty success!!! Once again our Musical Director whipped us into shape, and the full performance went off without a hitch. We went for a bite to eat afterwards to celebrate, and then did a little pub crawl from Youghal back to Midleton. A long day, but the Kiltha Tones were up to the challenge
Where have we been (Aug 22nd 06)?
Well we’ve been quiet for the last few months, but we’re back in training again, planning to assist a nice couple’s special day in Youghal on September 1st. We had a good night out in Water Rock House on Tuesday night August 15th, providing some entertainment for a meeting of the Vintners Federation.
We had a mighty session on the Friday night of the August Weekend in Cliffords in Castlemartyr, the singing the music, the drink and the grub were outstanding!

News Jan 30th 2006
Well, we’re back, safe and sound from an eventful weekend in Cardiff, and after a number of ‘splits’ in the camp, the weekend was deemed to be a great success, and great craic by all.
The first of the ‘Splits’ occurred shortly after arriving at base in The Angel Hotel on Castle Street, and the trend of Sub commottees and sub-sub committees continued throughout the weekend.
The first Highlight of the tour, was being invited to, (and getting loads of free drinks at) the re-opening of O’Neill’s Pub on Mary Street, we met up with the lads from St Colmcille’s GAA club in Cardiff and some of the Glamorgan University GAA team, and a great night was had by all, Entertainment was provided by Achtung Baby, an outstanding U2 covers band. Because there wasn’t much opportunity to sing in the pub, we sang in Saddam’s chipper on the way home. Babóg scored a point, but no goals. Sincere Thanks to Shane, for the invitation to the party and all the free drinks and snacks.
Day 2. A trip to Cardiff castle, attended by elements of both factions started the day, but soon after the tour ended, it became obvious that the rift was deepening, with the Cardiff 4 heading for the Valleys while the Magnificent 7 took time out to relax and buy gifts for themselves and loved ones. The evening started with no word from the valleys, and a small but loyal band of Rugby fans braved wind and rain in the covered stand of the Cardiff Arms Park to watch a poor match between Cardiff and Edinburgh. The remaining souls tested the Welsh Hospitality and sampled the beers and ciders and Double Vodka and Orange Juices of the local hostelries. The night concluded with he return of the Cardiff 4, and a rousing sing-song in Kitty Flynns, and more singing in the Chipper.
Day 3, The day started with a quick regrouping, to discuss tactics. An afternoon session was planned for the afternoon in Kitty Flynns, and a Dinner in the Hotel at 8pm. The split continued with a substitution, and once again headed for the Valleys, while a Tour of the Millenium Stadium was undertaken by the Magnificent 7, after singing in the Cafe during Breakfast and delighting the astonished punters and staff. Nice Breakfast too! Well we sang Irelands Call from the top of the stand in the stadium, and got a round of applause from those on the tour. Time out, in it’s varied forms was once again taken, to steel the spirits for the long evening ahead. All members convened in Kitty Flynns for a good ould session, but after 2 hours, decided it was time to move on and perhaps sing a few songs in O’Neills, to repay in some fashion all the drink and hospitality received on our first night in the city. To cut a long and winding story short, we ended up singing in ‘the small O’Neills’ and got invited to sing at a wedding. Spirits were drooping by Dinner Time, and a few quiet songs were sung for the diners in the Hotel restaurant. An early night followed for most, because another early morning flight beckoned to return the revellers to the welcoming arms of East Cork.

News - Jan 22nd 2006
After a busy Christmas 2005, with a number of concerts, sessions and all day session on St Stephen’s day on ‘the wren’, The Kiltha Tones are once again attempting to break new ground.
This weekend, on their first Venture abroad, they will take to the skies with Ryanair in a bid to take Cardiff by storm. The Tones will be led once again by their intrepid Chairman Niall Coffey, who claims that this will be first and foremost a cultural event, with several tours planned. Of course, there is always a chance that someone will start singing, and..............well.............we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
It has been decreed that cameras are officially banned from the trip, however it has been rumoured that at least one of the crew is planning to smuggle one in in his bodhran stick. If any photos make their way to the webmaster, rest assured that one or two will appear in the gallery in due course.
Oh, and by the way, there are a pile of new pics in the gallery, so be sure to check it out
Watch this space for more details!!!!
